The late Waylon Jennigs was the bass player for the late Buddy Holley.On the ill fated night in Clear Lake Iowa Waylon gave up his seat to The Big Bopper.

Waylon Jennings and Tommy Allsup who played in Buddy Holly’s Band gave their seats to Richie Valens and The Big Bopper. The Big Bopper had a cold and wanted to go ahead of the bus because the bus was cold and the heater didn’t work properly. I visited with Tommy Allsup about 4 years ago and we did discuss this. He told me that Waylon always blamed himself because he and Buddy had been joking and Buddy said to Waylon I hope that old bus freezes and Waylon told Buddy yeah and I hope your ole plane crashes and unfortunately that is what happened and Waylon had a hard time getting over it but it was all in jest.
