Who do you think out of this decade of music 2000-2010 will go down in history as a music legend/genius?
georgiedoors asked:
Who do you think can be ranked alongside the greats. Examples of legends are Elvis, Dylan, Hendrix, The Beatles you get my drift!
Hehe i dont think Fall-out boy have a chance of being remembered…or Greenday. I Like Weezer though but i doubt they’ll go down as legends.

its too early to tell…
weezer or green day are the only 2…
honestly i can only think of tool. but who knows.
Probably the winners of American Idol
I bet (I dont nessicarily agree with all these) Green Day, Fall Out Boy, Eminem and John Mayer will be the most remembered. They are all very popular and are part of different genres from the 90s to the 2000’s. We got punk, rock, rap and pop covered.
Not saying theyre on the same playing field as The Beatles, Elvis or even Led Zeppelin, but from our gen, thats what I’d say.
I really can’t think of anyone at this time. I will add to the post if I can think of anyone.
Pete Doherty
i think tool and the streets. there arent many unique artists in this decade. matisyahu could be one too. i wish i’d been born earlier so i could have enjoyed music’s golden years.
actually, muse could be one.
Jack White
Maynard James Keenan
Hey, I think Radiohead would be a legend. Maybe other Brit pop bands too, and I’ve seen one which is Blur. Damon Albarn is a focking musical genius. So does The Gallaghers, they’re quite controversial but that doesn’t seems their musical talent.
Other legends include:
David Bowie, Pete Townshend, Robert Plant, Freddie Mercury, Jimmy Page, Paul McCartney and Morissey.
I think music from this decade will be remembered as the decade of corporate vomit music
no any thing made after 90 is horrible
Amy Winehouse if she overdoses, thats the only way for someone to die.
I can’t think of anybody that will be as remembered as the legends you mentioned. There are good bands and musicians out there but I don’t think anybody is doing something that is way out of the ordinary. Most of today’s popstars like Miley Virus and the Jonas Suckers and emo bands like Fall Out Boy will probably be forgotten very soon. I do have a hunch that bands like Lamb Of God and Skeletonwitch will be remembered for trying something different(if heavy metal becomes a more accepted genre), though only time can tell.
At the moment, Radiohead comes to mind. Maybe someone like Beck who was eclectic and (in an artistic sense, not in a genre sense) were a bit more on the progressive side.
The thing is that it’s hard to say. Really what starts to tell you the answer to those questions is the filter of time. That’s how you really know what was a fad and what had real lasting power. I can look to a band like the Shins and see them as a band that I believe is worth remembering, but my favorite bands have always been ones that weren’t really meant for history. I think Steve Malkmus is making some of the best music out there right now, but he has enough trouble getting noticed in this decade, much less 30-40 years from now. Same thing with his old band Pavement in the 90s. I believe that Slanted and Enchanted in particular had a substantial impact on music, but it was more in reference to the under the radar stuff. At any rate, I try to look at acts that transcend genres. Bands like U2 (and whether you like them or not, I’m in the middle personally, they’re a name that will be around for a very long time). Truth be told, I’m not sure who will last. I do know that Radiohead comes to mind though. I kind of see them as this generation’s Led Zeppelin, in a manner of speaking.
Because of consistency and impact I would say
Kanye West (whether you like his music or not he has made good albums and changed the sound of hip-hop/rap)
&
Jack White (Raconteurs and White Stripes have had great albums over the past decade.)
The only band that keeps making great music no matter what the year/decade is: U2
In my opinion Animal Collective have been the most creative and consistent band since the 2000’s. There last five albums have been stellar with two of them possibly becoming classics.
System Of A Down have become a 2000’s decade fave of mine.
Here’s 1999 SOAD…
beck, radiohead, jack white
there is no shortage of geniuses out there, but most arent widely acclaimed enough to be legends.
